High framerate Vsync or Gsync for cs:go competitive?

Hey everyone,

I have a few questions regarding gaming monitors and which one I should get. I only care about/play counter strike global offensive in a competitive setting so it is very important to me to get smooth gameplay so that my aim is not limited by my hardware. Since counter strike is not a very demanding game when you talk about graphics I can run it at around 240 fps consistently.
At the moment I have a shitty 60Hz monitor and I want to upgrade it. Now here is the dillema: Do I buy a lower end g-sync monitor (since I do not have all the money in the world to spend) (like a AOC g2460pg with 144Hz, low responce time and g-sync) or a higher end V-sync monitor like a nice BenQ model or the EIZO foris fg2421 (240Hz, low responce time). So will I feel the difference between a monitor with g-sync or V-sync with both having high refresh rates and recieving a high FPS output? Will there still be tearing/stuttering if I keep my fps steady at the 144/240 mark?

Thank you for your answers.

Gsync!

However competetive players don't care about any of that stuff, just low input lag and high refresh rates. 240 Hz beats 120 Hz. Screen tearing is rare nowadays so Vsync is hardly required and will really mess up your aim in-game due to the increased input lag. You can get away with a lot less, 144 Hz and low response time should be your two priotities. If color & contrast is an issue shoot for an IPS panel, not TN. :)

Just a heads up, that 240 Hz is native 120, it doubles it on it's own making it feel even smoother. Very common technology in most TV's. The EIZO Foris FG2421 is a VA panel, meaning it's trying to combine both IPS and TN.

IPS > VA > TN

thank you for your in depth reply! :)

So what you are saying is that G-sync is better than V-sync but if I will play competitively I don't need both of these technologies? I will only need a high refresh rate (and fps) and a low responce time?
Tell me if I'm wrong but this is how I see it now: G-sync is usefull when you are playing a modern game that you can't keep at 120 fps all the time, sometimes the frames will drop a bit or rise a bit. Then you experience tearing without G-sync. With G-sync however I will not experience tearing (nor stutter which is what you get with V-sync). But if I can keep my fps on the same value as my refresh rate (144fps/144Hz for example) I will keep the imput lagg to a minimum (because I don't use these fancy techonlogies) and I will experience almost no tearing at all. Therefore I shouldn't really need a g-sync monitor since I won't really feel the impact of g-sync because I can keep my fps high enough (over 200)?

If all of this is correct, I know what to do and what to buy. If it's not...well...

Pretty much. G-Sync gets rid of screen tearing completely because the GPU syncs with your monitor. The advantage over vsync is that it minimizes input lag and stutter. Screen tearing happens when your monitor is not in sync. Anyways g-sync is what you want, or none at all. What Nvidia claims on their website is that with a g-sync you will never go back, that is just marketing and not true at all. It's all preference.

I like the idea of G-sync and maybe it's usefull for the new games but on a forum I read this: "If you want the game to never drop below 144hz, I wouldn't recommend a G-sync. You won't get any benefit from these technologies once you're above the monitor's refresh rate. I'd stick to a normal panel." Do you know if this is true, because if it is, I see no advantage at the moment for me to lay down the extra cash for a G-sync monitor.
