High HDD temp!! (116 degrees)

Just recently I learned that my HDD is operating at an extremely unsafe temperature. It ranges from 112-116 celsius. I got that value from running a program called Game Booster.

I am EXTREMELY scared of my system frying. It has already frozen on me 3-4 times. My GPU temp is in the low 50s range.

What do i need to do to reduce the HDD temp? I have cracked my case door open just a little bit to vent air.

My ancient system: Dell dimension 2400, 3.06ghz Pentium4 CPU. Nvidia GeForce 8400GS GPU, 480 watt PSU, 2gb ram. Stock everything else.

Are you sure i shouldn't be worried? Here is a screenshot of the program recording my temps.

It really does say 114 CELSIUS, not farenheit.

Well, unless you can boil water on the drive, the sensor OR software is not reporting right(taking a Fahrenheit temperature and reporting it as Celsius?).

Why not touch the drive(for real, I do not think it can be that hot), If it does not instantly burn you, you are fine. Does it start low and slowly rise. It can not start THAT hot.

I am almost sure it would have long since failed at those temps.

See what temps this shows

Oh thank god...

I just checked my temperature on the cpuid hwmonitor software and i got 36 degrees celsius.

PHEW.... huge sigh of relief.

My computer HAS crashed before while i was playing games though. What would happen is that everything would be normal, then the screen would freeze and a repetitive noise would come out of the speakers. The noise would be whatever was last heard. It would repeat extremely quickly and cannot be stopped. I cannot exit the game using CTRL ALT DEL, and I am forced to turn off the pc.

This has never happened before i installed the extra RAM, new PSU, and video card/CPU. I am running an extremely old game from 1999, which has operated fine up until the installation of the new hardare upgrades.

I thought high heat was the problem. Since it apparently isn't, are there any ideas?

It says my core temp is within the 51-52 C range. I am running speedfan.

That must be CPU right?

Regarding drivers, the only drivers that i am able to update would be for my graphics card, correct?

51c should not crash a system either.

Many other things have drivers that can be updated as well, but video/sound/network/chipset are the common ones.

If you have lots of freezing, you may have to do some tests on different parts. These tests can involve extreme loads of cpu/video card and memory testing. Generally this will find WHAT is crashing, but you should keep an eye on the system for a while when starting a test to see how the temps settle.

Before any testing, you should ensure your fans and heatsinks are clean and not clogged with dust.

OK ill will check to make sure my GPU drivers are up to date. Last i checked they were. I dont think sound would be an issue as i have never updated/messed with those settings/hardware.

My pc is already dust free, as ive done the dusting before installation.
