High Latency Wifi Problem... Please help!

Hi Fellows - I have been able to find a solution for almost everything i ever posted on this forum and i hope i have the same for this one too...

So, here is the deal.

I shifted to a new place and there is no way for me to have a lan cable installed where my computer is... About 5-10 feet or 2-5 meters away from the Wifi router.

So, i bought a USB wifi Adapter (Netgear N150) and was having connectivity issues at random.

Wifi would connect and would drop randomly after 10, 15 minutes or sometimes an hour... but it would drop.

So, i bought a new USB wifi Adapter (Netgear N300) This promises connection to the router for upto 300 mbps... I thought this would be enough... but same issues.

Surprising Fact: At the same location or even a few feet away from that point... i have no issues whatsoever connecting using a laptop (Assuming the inbuilt Wifi works better than the USB Adapters.

I even have get Latency pinging the local gateway.

Any tips on what can i do to make this work?
Or may be i can get a better Wifi USB adapter?

But I'm having a hard time visualizing 10 feet away and not being able to run a cable.

Yeah just run Ethernet Cable. Faster more reliable. Cheap

@USAFRet... Not sure about interference... MY floor itself has about 10 - 12 other Strong enough wifi networks.

like i said... Laptops are fine... it's just these USB wifi adapters not working.

Can't do it... Would have to get it drilled and that is not an option the way infrastructure is laid out.

Yes, I understand it is your WiFi. But a neighbor on the same channel can interfere.

Do you have your own Wifi Router or are you using a community wireless? It sounds like you are in a place where there are many wifi networks. This can make the 2.4Ghz band miserable. If you have your own router I would seriously consider upgrading so you can use 5Ghz channels. There is much less interference on that band.

How do i figure out the Ghz?

Do you recommend anything for 5Ghz?

Well, if you're getting a lot of interference through wireless and you really can't lay cable you could try a few things:

1. Try different channels. The ones to use are 1, 6 and 11. The rest just overlap
2. Try a different wireless card. Some routers work better with the same brand of wireless card or USB adapter
3. Get a more powerful, dual band router. 5Ghz tends to be a lot less cluttered and so will have less interference. If your walls have metal in them though or are very thick 5Ghz can be more susceptible to this.
4. Get Powerline. These connect using your standard electrical sockets and are usually better than wireless for stability or latency. It's essentially a wired solution without having to lay cables.

I got a Dlink Powerline... (about $25) and that did the job.
