I upgraded to 10 and have noticed system or local services going to 3-5 Gb. I have

  • *Updated my network driver from ASUS website
    * performed an sfc /scannow
    * found HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Ndu and
    Changed the "Start" value to 4 (to disable it. known issue with the NDU in windows 10
    * tried to clear my pagefile every time i reboot

Here is a screencap of my issue.

I use bitdefender internet security 2016 as virus protection and my Motherboard is a Maximus VII (7) Hero

As stated, it happens to system too but resource manager always points to svchost. here is a screencap of that

I did check for malware. The OS install was only 5 days old. I dont use many applications or download a lot so the chances were slim it was malware. That being said, yes, I ran Malwarebytes, Spybot and have had Bitdefender Internet Security 2016 running since the first boot into Windows 10.

I believe I have permanently solved the problem but didn't pinpoint the exact culprit. I logged into My Motherboards website and downloaded their drivers for LAN, Audio, Chipset and SATA. I already had the latest Geforce driver from NVidia. I installed all 4 drivers AND i also uninstalled the motionjoy driver that allowed me to utilize a PS3 controller on my system. The software was removed but the driver didn't get removed with it seemed to carry over to 10.

Seeing as i did all of this in the same session ( i got real sick of the problem and just wanted it fixed) I can't say exactly which driver it was, but it was a poorly functioning driver. My money is on the motionJoy driver still registered to my system.
