Hi there
Im a Gamer and I really Need a good ping to Be able to play
I recently Changed my Modem To a TP-LinkW8951ND V5 (I Use Windows 7)
As i faced some ping and packet loss problems (not sure if all of them where caused by router or ISP) I started to check my network
and I noticed i have Around 5ms Ping with the router Even if Im using Direct Wired Connection (LAN cable)
Here is The Result :
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
Packets: Sent = 85, Received = 85, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 4ms, Maximum = 10ms, Average = 5ms
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I Tried To Upgade the FrameWork , But it Didnt work (As starge it is -> maybe a bug or Sth the ping was under 1ms Just After Upgrade but Went up soon after that)

Any Ideas?
THX in Advance

What games do you play, I am assuming WOW. What servers do you play on, what region are you from? ECT, what are your pings in the game. Are they constantly high, or do they vary?

I Used to play WOW a lot :) (Really Alot :))
Nowdays I mostly play Dota2 if I have the time
well its not Like my ping is way too high - but it is more than it used to Be and I see packet lossfrom tiime to time (could b from ISP i wasnt home for around 2 year and its like this when I tured back and wat to habe some fun :/ )
Also ping from LAN MUST be under 1ms to There is a problem with modem for sure

Well its a 2Meter Cable and modem is right Beside me :)

Its not the 4ms Bro - I siad Im having Problem in Game
And When a Router has More than 1ms Ping It means Something is Wrong
Long sory Short It Means This Modem Can Cause all Sort of problems (High ping , time out , etc ) BeCause its SomeHow Broken.

It can be many things which is why ping is not the best tool to detect network issues when you are talking such small delays. Many times their can be delays in the drivers in the pc or in the time it takes to router to respond. Generally when they delays are as small as you are seeing it is no issue.

What you need to do is ping something like 8.8.8.8 and see if the delays are consistent. Hard to say what you will get since this ip exists in multiple locations but generally it is in a city near you.

What you can do is let it run constantly in the background while the game runs. If the game claims high delays but the ping in general looks ok then it is something with the game client and not your network. Since most games do not actually use ping their delays do not always match a real ping.

Hmm. Can you try a different ethernet cable?

When you said the updated firmware didn't work, did you mean that the upgrade didn't take, or that it didn't fix the problem?

its not the cable
because when i try to ping via wifi , the ping is still high it even have time out ! and pings like 151ms in between (specially when downloading)
and
And frameware is was upgraded to last version even before me upgrading it (upgrade was successful)

Gotcha. Have you contacted TP-Link Support yet? It may be a faulty device.

Hmm. Is there a lot of interference in your area? You might try switching wifi channels to bring that down a bit. 150ms to wifi is terrible on its own. I know that won't affect the wired or router issues. You might even try looking for alternate firmware (Tomato, OpenWRT, DD-WRT) if you can't get it replaced under warranty.

I'm not sure what else we can suggest 🙁

It's not the 5ms ping he's worried about, it's why the ping is 5ms. I have a 0.014ms ping to my firewall. His ping is almost 400x greater than mine. Not to say something is actually wrong, it just a red flag to look into it.

Oh, Thanks For UnderStanding ... :)

I think the device is at fault and also other problems are intesifying it !
Also the modem was broken when bought it like 1 year ago , then warranti Fixed it for me
I mean ISP had problems it seems
and they got a new wirless phone at home (panasonic) that also seems to cause problems for wifi
