High ping to router (500ms)

I have a Netcomm nf4v router (provided by ISP), when I play games like CS:GO and LOL my ping to the router fluctuates between 250 and 500ms this happens after about 5 minutes into the game. I am the only one on the wireless when this happens. When I plug into the router via ethernet there are no problems. The WIFI is set to channel 13, this provides the best speed and ping because all of the other channels are clogged.
Any clue as to what might be causing this and a possible fix?
NOTE:Our ISP wont let us use a custom router (I don't know if this is possible or if they are just not wanting us to use our own).

Thanks in advance

Of course you can use your own router..if you can remove theirs is a different question. You just connect yours after theirs and turn off the wireless in theirs.

Still your problem is likely interference. There are not 13 channels. These are only 5mhz wide and a wireless "channel" is 20mhz or even 40mhz on more modern routers. The 40mhz is used when router try to use more than 300m encodings and eats 2/3 of all the bandwidth on the 2.4g band. So if you see anyone even close to your channel they are likely interfering.

Best bet if you can is to a router and adapater that runs on 5g. It gives you many more channels to attempt to use.....then again the newest and fanciest 802.11ac tri band routers use almost all the available...
ISP providers say that but it is not true. They cannot force you into a modem. That said some work better then others. Now you can turn off the wifi in the modem and plug in your own wifi router into it. Your ping rate sounds like you have some one piggy backing on your router or your wifi is failing in the router, or the little box is overheating. If over heating get cheap fan and point at intake for better performance. Hope this helps or solves your issues.

Bottom line you should never play games on wireless. Best is ethernet but you can also try powerline network if you are in a different room.

Solution

Powerline is last resort due to anything can interfere with the signal. He can connect straight but prefer wireless. AC router is your best bet if the modem is not overheating.

I will always choose powerline over wireless especially for games. At least the interference is only things in your house and it will be consistent. Wireless someone using wireless could drive by your house and cause random interference spikes.

True. I just know they have lots of limitations. I'm not going to go through them. Google them if you are interested.
