High pitch noise coming from CPU area

Hello everyone:

I built my first custom loop pc this past weekend and I noticed while playing video games there was some type of high pitch noise coming from the cpu area.

PC specs:

i7 8700k
rtx 2080ti
Asus motherboard Z390-H gaming
32 gb of crossair ddr 3200mhz
1000w + 80 platinum EVGA p2
970 evo m.2 500gb
2TB barracuda HDD
All my cooling is from EKWB:
Spremacy EVO gold
Pump Combo D5
420 Radiator w/ 3x 140mm fans

I will be taking the pc apart this weekend and rebuilding it to see if I find anything.

All my temps are normal.

There are a couple of possibilities. The first is a bearing problem in one of the fans (or the pump on the CPU water cooler). The other possibility is coil whine on the motherboard, graphics card, or power supply.

You can test the fans as the source by slowing the fan by placing tour finger on the central hub of the fan blades. As the fan slows the pitch of the noise will change or stop as you apply pressure on the fan.

Terry - when i put my ear to it, i can pinpoint with 100% confidence is coming out of the cpu area. The graphics card is quiet, the pump is quiet (unless it is the pressure it is pumping ) my psu is also quiet. Im not sure if its my ekwb cpu water block or my motherboard electrical components located right above the block.

The only things that make noise around the CPU are the water pump and motherboard components. There are also coils mounted on the motherboard itself (not just the graphics card and power supply. The CPU by itself shouldn't be making any noise (unless faulty).

With the use of a water CPU cooler, there are no CPU fans in the vicinity of the CPU. I would say the primary culprit is the water cooler pump. Some of the components of the motherboard can emit noise. Coils mounted on the motherboard are the next most probable cause of high pitched noise. But apart from replacing the motherboard or replacing individual coils, there isn't much that you can do about it.

Electrical coils can begin to oscillate when powered. That means they will vibrate and make noise. For this reason they are usually coated with something to fix them in place.

Inductors and capacitors also make noise.
