The case seems different on every game, but my main concern is bioshock (BaS DLC) where the game will run flawlessly on maximum settings, and then suddenly crash. I did a lot of tweaking with settings and found I could play without any signs of instability or crashing on ultra high quality on any resolution UP TO 1280x800. Anything above, including fullscreen and fullscreen windowed on native resolutions, caushes the game to crash within moments, if not when the resolution actually comes into play.
I'm not new to troubleshooting so I have checked every single thing I can think of, other than re-installing windows.
I recently got a new GPU, a radeon HD6970, and I completely swept all evidence of previous drivers (even in the registry) before installing the new drivers.
