High temps and voltages, without any overclocking

Hello,
Hi all
I have a problem here,
I have Gigabyte motherboard "GA-MA78GPM-DS2H" , AMD 780G - AM2+ socket and recently coupled with AMD PhenomII X4 955 processor. OS -Win XP-32bit
I observe that without any overclocking voltages being provided is slightly high. Like
CPU Vcore - 1.440V (normal - 1.4V)
DDR2Ram - 1.986V(normal-1.8V)(using total of 4 GBRam Kingston 800MHz)
For MOBO -- 3.344V(normal 3.3V)
12.302V(normal 12V)
And CPU is being Run at maximum clockspeed(3224MHz - actual to be 3200MHz)constantly, irrespective of the load and usage.

Due to which Temperatures are getting high around 60-65 degC(danger zome to cpu recomended temps).
I have upgraded Bios to F6G(latest version), tried reloading of OS and installed new driver for AMD Cpu,
But couldnt solve the problem.
cud anyone please help me.

whether you use the stock cooler, try to replace the
thermal paste and clean the heatsink and fan. after
that if you turn on the computer let casing open condition, and entered in the bios you must do disabled smart fan.and rolling fan up. and add fan to exhaust, check with hwmonitor. whether the temperature down.
if this method cannot solved be the best way, you should replace a good cpu cooler + exhaust fan

i have done what u suggested, still didnt solve the problem.
The cooler i am using is a brand new one.
Concern is CPU being run at constant speed irrespective of the load and what I observed is 0.02V is provided in excess for all modules in the rig.
To control the temps I have underclocked the cpu to 1.325V, even then it is supplied with 1.34V(0.02V in excess).
A week back when I installed this processor then it was good , adjusting to the load and voltages. But now it is not so, it takes constant voltage and run at constant speed even without any load.

I believe in HWMonitor under the processor tree there is a power part that tells you whether the CPU is idling or not.

Does ur mobo support this processor?
Did u check the supported processor list?
Did u try a BIOS update?

i dont see the Phenom II line up in the processor compatibility list. So there u go. thats probably what ur problem is. U should probably get a AM3 board and ddr3 memory to complement ur Phenom II x4 955 BE.

sorry my bad. The CPU support list does have the Phenom II lineup. So dont know what the problem could be. Do try a BIOS update. Good luck

In the specification page there is no Phenom II. But they have them in the CPU Support list. :-/

yeah sorry I'm less careful reading and forget it, this is difference in
type motherboard GA-MA78GPM-DS2H (AM2 +) in list just phenom X4. And GA-MA78GPM-DS2H (rev 1.) which use the AM3 support phenom II

Maybe for better upgrade mobo am3 or am3+ very worth 😀

yes thats always an option to buy new mobo.
have updated to latest bios!!...
will a better cooler help?
guys can u point out to any other possible loophole that might cause these high temps and voltages?
because i am not able to play games, as within 15mins of start of a game temp reaches to 70 deg C....
really need to solve this problem

I dont think a better cooler will help u with the problem of the CPU running at max frequency all the time. Do try re-installing the CPU cooler with a better thermal compound. Also I 'd suggest u call up Gigabyte(and / or AMD) service people and see what they have to say.

Gigabyte motherboards are bad to over-volt when you have voltage settings on *Auto* -- and when over-volted your temps will run quite high.

Set your VCore to manual -- or even minus 0.0125v. You should not have any problems.

Stock volts for the PhII955BE is around 1.325v. Your temps will be substantially less if you keep your reported voltage at 1.35v or less.

In order for C&Q to work properly it must be enabled in the BIOS; and you must enter the 'Power Options' menu in the Control Panel and set your system to *Power Saver*.

It is sometimes necessary to enter the Power Saver 'plan settings' -advanced power settings- and drop your 'minimum processor state' under Processor power management to zero. C&Q should then percolate at 4x200MHz idle.

That should do it. If you raise the CPU multiplier above stock on a Black Edition processor, C&Q will be disabled. A third party utility can help you work around this if you are interested.

hi wisecracker, u suggestion did help me in controlling the temps,instead of 1.325V i have set 1.25V for my Vcore thru bios. thank you. however the settings thru power options didnt bring the processor to idle speed of 800MHz

Nice under-volt! [:jaydeejohn:5] that should keep things cool.

If you have C&Q enabled in the BIOS, and properly set the power options, the only thing that comes to mind are your chipset drivers. You may check the GB web site for your current motherboard drivers or better yet, head over to AMD and check out the Motherboard/Integrated Video Drivers.

After selecting your OS you may download the latest video drivers, and under 'Optional' can snag the SB drivers and the Avivo codec package. You need Avivo for the IGP hardware acceleration of video (reduces CPU utilization).

If the driver updates don't work, check back and we'll throw something else at it.

hi gamestr, just figured it out power settings did solve the problem, previously i have set on different option- which did not help !!!!
"minimal power management" option solved it.

U might run into stability issues because of that undervolt.
Run some stability tests and revert back to original voltages if necessary.

i checked with original voltages, in 15 mins of stability test temps shot to more than 65 degC. so i put back to previous volts, this time 1 hr stability test performed with temps stabilizing at 60degC.
i will start playing games, then i shud see stability issues if any.
