HI

I recently bought an Alienware 17 R4
Specs:
i7700hq
GTX 1070 8GB
8GB Ram
1 tb HDD

I have been experiencing performance problems where certain games are practically unplayable, I've come from a really low end pc and saved for this new system and I struggling to play certain games smoothly...

games like
Fortnite, Shadow of War and shadow warrior 2 I can play Maxed out at 60 fps...
However the new assassins creed I cannot even play on the lowest settings without it stuttering and consistently dropping frames this also happens with:
Ghost recon Wildlands
Black Ops 3
etc...
my cpu seems like its usage is higher than it should be while gaming however I don't know if that's the issue...

any help would be greatly appreciated PLEASEE I saved up for ages for this laptop and just want to enjoy my games

thanks

hope to hear something soon 😀

Open 'Task Manager' and see what's consuming CPU/GPU/Mem/HD. Close any background apps you don't need open. If you are running a 3rd party anti-virus/firwall app, check for a "Game Mode" option or disable it while you are gaming.

I'm surprised it only has 8GB of memory. It's recommended to have at least 16GB.

Thanks for your quick reply! I just tried what you suggested and it didn't seem to change anything, msi afterburner is saying that while playing the game my cpu is a 100% yet gpu isn't working too hard as its a 1070 do you have any other suggestions?

thanks

Its defiantly running on the right gpu I'm certain its the cpu that is the problem I just don't understand why? Its more that powerful enough to run these games and many more ive seen videos of the same system playing them maxed out also the few games that do work, work amazingly and are get locked 60fps maxed out I don't understand what wrong with it...
But I'm almost certain its a cpu problem
thanks

I have put it in performance mode now and still the cpu is bottlenecking the gpu and fps is stuttering all over the place!!
its slightly more playable than before but still no where near the smooth 60fps it should be
