"Top 10 reasons HL2 will not be released this year!

10: Delaying HL2 after STALKER is released.
9: Reworking network code for IP v6.
8: Delayed untill ATI PS 3.0 cards are available.(since they invested 6Mil)
7: Must redo graphics so that Vampire: The Masquerade won't be better.
6: Won't make gold untill Release Canidit 17.
5: Coverting HL2 to MMORPG only game.
4: License problems with HAVOK (game engine usage).
3: Stall tactic.
2: Not wanting to change taxable earnings for 2004.
1: Cease and Desist from VU on HL2 untill final court date"

wrt reason # 1, ATI better sue vivendi, for if Valve looses their case, and HL2 doesnt go over steam, ATI coupon guys will have problems. After all they invested something like 6 milion.

"Beginning in 1999, following the success of its first game, Valve began to threaten Sierra that it would halt or slow development of the remaining games it was obligated to develop unless Sierra relinquished certain rights under the 1997 agreements."

It is us end gamers who are stuck in their battle. Who knows that might be the reason for them making the game production so long. I wish Valve leaves vivendi, and distribut via steam. I bet thats gonna make them produce games faster.

Yep I'm just past DELTA
Oh ok, I had thought you did finish it.

I got it Day one in Canada (day after US), but remember I didn't have it with me while on Vacation!
IIRC it was because Dell didn't know how to ship the laptop in time, right?

Anywhoo, it's good, it's spooky enouh, and it's been worth the money, especially since I lent it to a friend the entire time I was out East (hey I'm not using it!) and he finihsed it, so it's like 2 for 1.
Was remembering the time you gave your first impressions, and how you seemed pretty darn disappointed. You seem less now.

Yep, no laptop before flight. Too bad too for the flight, but really I didn't need it while I was actually out East never a dull moment.

I'm still disapointed, but it's good enough to entertain. I expected more from the AI and the scares are still 'predictable' (I've wated too many grenades trying to kill this in advance, but they don't actually spawn until you are in that area, that sux IMO. I know it's coming but there's nohting I can od about it. Oh well it's good enough and it's definitely offering bettwe than a movie return on investment.

I just got a free movie pass for 2 at owrk as a than you for helping move some office furniture (I'm the biggest guy I alwqys get asked, but this is the first time I got something for it. I think I will use it on either Shaunof the Dead otr that new Garry Sinese / Julianne Moore flick (can't remember the name).

Anywhooo, it's been worth it, but it''s still not a 'Classic' to me, but it is stunning visually none the less (even at the 'medium' I have the R9600p set to.

From halflife2.net
This just in from Doug Lombardi:

"September 21, 2004 - Valve®, developer of innovative technologies and award-winning games, today announced a Source engine licensing partnership with Smiling Gator Productions. Already in development, Twilight War: After the Fall is a Source-based Massive Multiplayer Roleplaying Game (MMRPG) for the PC.

The Valve Source engine technology, the same used to create Half-Life 2, gives developers the ability to create expressive digital actors and physically simulated worlds. It also offers advanced rendering capabilities and the industry's most convincing artificial intelligence.

"The Source engine is one of the gaming world's premier technologies, we are thrilled about the features it will bring to Twilight War: After the Fall," says Kingsley Montgomery, Vice President of Development at Smiling Gator Productions. "Its combat system, physics, and advanced AI are exactly what we were looking for to enable the exciting features we are developing for our game. We evaluated several game engines and concluded that Valve's was the only choice for us. In addition to being a top-notch product, their support has been excellent."

Smiling Gator Productions joins Troika Games and Arkane Studios as announced Source licensees. Source is designed for the creation of games from all genres, and contains a host of proprietary tools for level editing, character direction and more.

"We are eager to see the Source engine used for an MMRPG by Smiling Gator Productions," said Gabe Newell, Valve's C.E.O. "The ability to render realistic environments and create compelling characters with true-to-life emotional expressions will be a great innovation for one of the industry's most promising genres."

1 new thing
"GameSpy: Vivendi appears willing to work with Valve on a future title; between your recent partnership with Actvision and this legal bickering with Vivendi, would Valve still be interested in future products with Vivendi, or are you hoping this would set you "free" so to speak. "

Valve and activision ? a future I see, Carmack engine + source engine = godliness.

You got a sound system for your PC there?

As always, trying it at night with 4 or 5.1 definitely makes it more fun. Just a suggestion if you haven't tried it. Even if you're done playing it, it should be worth trying that experience a little. I can just imagine those with 7.1 sound systems and huge plasma screens. AW GAWD!

Actually I do, but I still prefer headphones.

However I saw someone on EliteBastardz review the surround heaphones (gainward IIRC) and I'm sold, that sounds like the thing for me. I like my surround in movies (DTS is great), but I prefer heaphones for gaming, so for ~$50 sure why not I spent much more on the ones I use now anyways?

I don't need to pick and chose, I will see ALL of the above and I will see shaun of the dead for sure because it looks like a good spoof of a good small Brit movie (28 days later) that grew into a worldwide hit, and was actually spooky.

The thing is that it;s the Calgary film festival this weekend so I'm going to see not so common flicks. Saw the TAO of Steve here at the first year of the Fest, I really miss going to the Toronto one, I had connections and used to go every year to a ton of flicks; my sister now takes advantage of those benifits.

nope, its not a spoof of the brit movie 28 days later.
its the spoof of an american movie

"Dawn of the Dead" - 1978 - 1st of its kind
Ever wondered where the term ZOMBIE became popular from ? That movie is aka Zombie Dawn of the Dead.

There has been a release of the new Dawn of the Dead this year, and hence a spoof of it.

I guess if u havent seen it, its a very good movie (both old and new)

Resident Evil/28 days later are all rip offs. Oh by the way the lastest Dawn of the Dead was shot in a closeby mall.

I have the Gainward 5.1 headphones (newegg.com; they were like $27 when I purchased them about 2 months ago).

They sound pretty good. You can tell there are separate speakers, but not quite as distinct as a true 5.1 setup. The sound is pretty good, although I get a little popping from deep bass sounds at times.

I use them because I use TeamSpeak for online games and cannot have my speakers going at the same time. Overall they are excellent, especially for the price. It is a great compromise between 5.1 and headphones.

"Dawn of the Dead" - 1978 - 1st of its kind
That's the title and some content, but the trailer I've seen so far also has alot of references to 28days, which is what intruiges me.

I have seen Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Return of the Living Dead, and of course the whole EvilDead series (best Horror spoof in the history of spoofs!) But thanks for the movie lesson.

I didn't find 28 days to be a rip-off, it had some very original ideas, and I liked alot of the twists (less about the zombies than society).

In any case if it's even a 2 out of 4 but I think it'll be ok, it worth a matinee price to me.

BTW, wouldn't Dawn of the Dead really just be an extension of 'The Mummy's Curse'?

did u find evil dead funny ? well it was.
u seen exorcist ? which is the most scary movie u have seen ?

The evil dead series is awesome I quote/link to it all the time (my e-mail notification is <A HREF="http://underworld.fortunecity.com/playstation/190/Groovy.wav" target="_new">GROooovy!</A>

<A HREF="http://underworld.fortunecity.com/playstation/190/aodwavs.html" target="_new">More Army of Darkness sounds</A>

Saw exorcist when I was a kid, and the re-release in theatre.

Scariest movie ever for me, Jaws. I saw it when I was 7, still to this day gives me nightmares (like once a year) of being killed by a shark (Open Water didn't help that either).

Scariest 'Horror Flick' for me was probably the Original Halloween.

Honrable Mention, the Original texas Chainsaw massacre.

My most fright-inducing films are

The Shining
A Nightmare on Elm St. I
Amityville Horror II

Athlon 2500+, Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rev2, 768Mb Corsair XMS 5-2-2-2.5, Sapphire 9800 Pro 128Mb, Seagate SATA 80Gb, Fortron-Source FSP400-60PFN

how abt the RING ? and jerks from shyamalan films

The Shinning I'll grant you. My problem, read the book first.

Nightmare I found funny more than scary, but it was a guilty pleasure. Like Friday the 13th, didn't scare so much as fascinate with the gore, little jokes, and sheer campy-ness (no pun intended about Fri13th  ).

Amityville was solid too. And it got me like Poltergeist, which was somewhat spooky but didn't truely scare me as keep me engrossed in the movie.

There's also somthing to be said for the grainy film and dark settings, which work alot better to me than simply the black set. It's more realistic when it's that ugly mustard colour from the 70s that was in every horror flick.

Ok, back to HL2 news.

Counter strike Source has been updated, 2 nice ones:

-Improved DX7 graphics code path performance by up to 225%.
I guess now they are going for the steam poll they had. But isnt DX7 too old ?

-Fixed a problem where the game would crash when run on Win98 with a nVidia 5900, 5950, or 6800.
huh ???

"Valve has announced that it will deliver a release candidate version of Half-Life 2 (HL2) (a game required under the 2001 SPA) to Sierra/VUG within the next few weeks. If Valve delivers a release candidate version that complies with the contract and is a Final Milestone, then VUG will have six months to release the product under the 2001 SPA. Valve is pressing VUG to release the product early within that six month window, and its representatives have made a number of public statements without our consent or concurrence that the product will be published and released to the general public in September of this year."
