I've got a pretty nasty situation. Me and my friend each own a cable modem. We'd like to setup a home network between three computers using both modems. The cable modems have dynamic ips that the DHCP changes about once every month. Is it possible to setup a home network running any version of Windows with this configuration? If so I'd greatly appreciate your help. Thanx!

98 se and me and 2000 can set it up if ur thinking of combining the two cables to get one super modem not going to happen. the third one will have to feed off of one of the two , doesnt matter if it switches every month the other one on the network will still get on the net anyways.

it doesnt concern ur home network only the modem itself

Thanks for posting into so many boards at this forum.

That's not what I meant. Sorry for the misunderstanding. What I was talking about is the routing mechanism that allows the networked computers to access the net. If I have two cable modems I must have two external ips, how can I setup a network so that I can access everything on the intranet and yet access the internet from one computer through one cable modem, and from the two other computers through the other cable modem. If the computers are networked, wont computer 1 connected to modem 1 try to access the net through modem 2 at the same time? This is the conflict here. Thanx for your posts guys!

Well sorry. I'm new to this forum so I just thought I'd post in all realted subjects (operating systems that are concerned and Other).

That's no problem then; I won't hold grudges against anyone unless... well... I don't know. :)
It's probably a better idea to pick the most related board to post to and make a post there, as some or many of us go through multiple boards anyway.

Buy a cable router/hub/dhcp/firewall/blah, blah thing. It cost around 200 bux, has 4 (or more) 100kb ports, has a vireless option as well (little more money though), hook it up to the cable modem and run everything from it on the inside. It will pick the IP address from the ISP and will give IP addresses to the inside computers, which will be able to access internet through it.

Have fun.

Post, we'll do the "search"...

or do what i do...instead of buying a $200 router...buy a $15 network card, and set up one machine to have two cards, and have Windows Internet Connection Sharing enabled.

Here's how I did it:
