server? i7? haha! go pentium, celeron, i3, or xeon. do it right. supermicro or asrock-rack. OS on separate drives, preferably a RAID-1 pair of SSD.
I think the build you and your friend put together would be completely fine other than the motherboard. In my personal experience every ASRock I've seen has failed in less than 3 months.
 


I'm fairly sure yes because that is a lot of cores to work with that can do a lot of number crunching and a lot of ram for them to run on
