Hello all, I've lurked here for a while but just signed up this evening. Nice community you guys have here, I hope to be a constructive part of it.

Anyway, I recently came into possession of a free computer which is a little dated but not too bad -- Athlon x64 dual core, but lacking much memory, integrated graphics, etc. It could use some upgrades, though. Since I just bought a new laptop, I don't have the funds to build a whole new server computer. My intention is to upgrade this one piece by piece, starting with the case and power supply. I figure I need to build a strong foundation before adding more components into a (currently) tiny case with a tiny power supply.

My end goal is to have a home file, Subversion, and database server that doubles as a Linux development desktop (currently have Fedora 15 installed). I won't need a super-powered graphics card since I'm not gaming on it, so I don't need a super-powerful power supply to drive it. However, I do plan on having four or five hard disks.

I found this case on Newegg, which appears to be inexpensive but 5 eggs and has six 3.5" bays for plenty of hard drives: Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case. Is there a better deal out there, given that I am going to load this thing up with hard drives, and therefor will need good cooling?

As for the power supply, my main desktop has an Antec TruePower and I have been satisfied with it -- it runs very quietly, reliably, and has provided good value. Would this one be adequate for my needs? Antec TruePower New TP-550 550W.

FYI -- I will be replacing the motherboard, CPU and RAM during the next upgrade, but that's a topic for the future. I just want to make sure the case/PS are adequate for future upgrades as well.

Power supply is fine, might be a bit overkill for just hard drives, but it will do the job fine for future upgrades. as for the case if space is not an issue you might want to go for full tower? It will help a great deal adding and removing hard drives (and cable management) in case you will install video card in the future (if not for gaming, maybe for GPU computing)
