Horrible Framrate Issues

Hiya,

I've been experiencing terrible frame, rate while playing games today (mainly cs:go but other games choppy a little).

I have a H87 Performance MOBO with 8 GB RAM and a R9 200 Series (280X). I haven't had any issues up until today.

The framerate drops to 20 and just is awful and choppy, will go to 50 or so for a moment then straight back down. I've tried lowering settings and I'm getting the same thing. My drivers are all uptodate.

That's what I use to monitor. Temps seem fine for both GPU and CPU - sits around 40-50

Looking at your screenshots I can say the following
1. Your GPU usage while idle is 0% so your PC isn't infected with bitcoin-minning malware.
2. Your GPU temperatures while playing were totally safe.
3. Your CPU is working hard.. But not to a level where it bottlenecks your GPU.
I have the same card (ASUS R9 280X) running with a Corsair VS 550W PSU with no FPS drops (I don't monitor FPS but if it dropped it would be clearly noticeable)..
I'd say try completely uninstalling the GPU drivers and re-installing the latest from AMD website. If not improved.. I'd suggest testing the card in another system that works and see how it performs..

I installed the newest drivers earlier today (probably should have mentioned that in the OP). I don't have another system to use. Ugh.

🙁 The game I'm playing right now (Don Bradman Cricket running at 40-50 FPS ingame) seems to be ok, but not the best. CS:GO is just one hot mess though even on lower settings.

What settings shold I use?
1920x1080 Anti-aliasing? Do I mess with the GPU-Z GPU Shark CPU burner stuff etc etc?

I was running CS:Go at 8X MSAA but I started the test and after a few minutes it was at like 10 FPS.

Here's the test after 13 minutes on 2X at 1920x1080: http://imgur.com/bXM6KZw

Yeah, it's weird which is why I'm baffled right now. I was running CS:GO at 8X and even on low settings and 2X it still struggles and is choppy. Everything was fine now it just chops up and is horrible, same with other games. Hm

I don't understand. I should be getting 100 FPS+ in CS:GO and Don Bradman cricket as well (Which is barely any strain). I've gone and see other people post their FPS with worse systems than mine and they are still getting 150+ on HIGH settings. I've done everything I can think of and can find.

Indeed.. CS:GO isn't a GPU intensive game and you should get higher FPS rates than what you actually get.
I suggest running benchmark software (like: 3DMark, Heaven Benchmark, Passmark, Furmark) and comparing the results you get to what your GPU is supposed to achieve. This will help you isolate the problem because benchmark software will make load on the GPU without making a lot of load on other components..
Post your results here.

I posted my Furmark results earlier in the thread, after one of your latest posts.

I can't find any benchmark reviews for CS:GO in particular besides a few videos which are running AT LEAST at 150. Mine I struggle to run over 20 FPS and other games are just as bad. All my stats are posted in the thread of the performance.

Things I've tried:
Changing cs:go launch settings
Changing cs:go video settings to lower
Reinstalling Steam and cs:go
My GPU has the latest drivers
Updated my MOBO BIOS

I'm running Windows 8.1
Intel Core i5 4690
8 GB RAM
ASRock H87 Performance
XFX R9 280X
Antec 520 PSU

I've NEVER had any issues before and don't make regular changes to software on my PC
