I have a ASUS Z97 Maximus VII Hero ATX Motherboard.

I have been trying to get good mic quality for a few weeks now and i've tried several headset mics but all of them have a horrible static sound. I just bought the Audio-Technica ATH ADG1 - headset which was supposed to have an amazing quality microphone. Also i tried the Audio-Technica BHPS1 with a mixer and there was still a really loud static noise.

I've seen review of these headsets and they sound amazing however whatever i try i cannot get rid of this stupid static noise. I've had to pay so much money to return all these products and im getting really annoyed. Also if it helps, i have a blue yeti and theres no static on that. Maybe because its connected through usb? but my Audio-Technica ATH ADG1 can also be connected using the provided usb adapter and it sounds worse.

It must be something to do with my motherboard right? maybe a sound card will help?

The problem comes from your I/O's on your motherboard, you should investigate which have the best quality and what has the worst and then try on a different computer. If there is no static on the other computer, it's your motherboard.

Now that you mention it my Audio-Technica ATH ADG1 does have an extension cable which i'm using. When i connect headset cable directly into the motherboard there is no static however the sound is very weak and muffled. When i connect the headset directly into the USB adapter provided the mic quality is brilliant with no static, however i cannot hear through the headset.

I am very confused, when i used the mixer with my other headset the sound was horrible and it was connected through usb to the motherboard and the headset was connected to the mixer through XLR. It wouldn't work at all when i connected the XLR to motherboard (with adapter)

usb through mother board is alread a shotty setup, you are prolly getting resedenital feedback from the usb. had that with my turtel headphones once. get some plantronics mic that dosent use a USB and it should solve you problem.

The Audio-Technica ATH ADG1 uses a single 3.5mm jack witch is for the microphone and headphone speaker. It comes with a usb adapter however when i use the adapter the headphone speaker doesn't work. Thats what i think the extention cable is for, it splits the microphone and the headphone cables and plugs in separately into the motherboard I/O but it sounds horrible.

I really cant figure this out, every configuration i try doesn't work out properly. The only thing that seems to work is connecting the headset directly into the usb adapter but only the mic works.

I got it to work with the usb adapter however there still seems to be a faint static which is only noticeable when hearing through the headset. Also i hear very faint popping sounds randomly. Its probably because im using a usb extender since the headset cable is so short.

Other than that the sound quality and mic quality are brilliant
