Hotspot that hides/masks the traffic?

I was wondering if there's a hotspot(gsm one) that hides traffic/masks it.

What I'm wanting is one that any traffic that goes through it is conveyed as cellular traffic from itself, and not from other devices.

The reason why is I know I can create a hotspot from my Nexus 5 and mask the traffic as if its all from itself, and not from other devices connected to it. I'm going to be switching to MetroPCS soon, and would be getting two lines (Main & WiFi) so I can have a connection for my laptop and other devices when I'm not at home, and dont have a limit of tething amount like 6gb/month or something like that.

I've seen people use 200+gb/month by tethering with thier phone, but I'd like to not always have to charge my phone and have it running hot.

I use to pay $125/month for unlimited on AT&T towers with a AT&T Unite, but $60 beats that easily haha.

So, does anyone know of a portable hotspot that does such a thing so I dont have to use my phone to tether all the time?

They all pretty much work that way all the traffic appears to come from the device. You can get broadband modems that connect to many routers, many of the asus and tplink support that.

Problem is there is no such thing as unlimited for tethered......if you find it I would love to know.

In most cases as soon as you use a non phone device they do not even offer these plans.

In the phone plans they say stuff like xGbytes/month tethered at full speed. Some even limit video to the phone itself after a certain point.

So lets assume you manage to get the phone to not show you as tethered they can easily still see what you are doing, your browser actually tells the OS it is running so when they see windows 8 or whatever they know you are running tethered even if you have hacked it. Some people try to use VPN but all the common vpn are also easily detectible as coming from a PC so they know that in addition to hacking the tethering you are now trying to avoid their detection software.

When you read the fine print in the contracts most clearly say when they catch you doing this they will convert you over to a normal data plan and charge you like $15/gig.

Remember the cell companies have very skilled network engineers working for them. They know all the tricks and have designed their systems to prevent abuse.

The only unlimited plan that allows tethering that I know of are old verizon plans that were offered years ago and very few people managed to keep this plan.

The Metro PCS unlimited data plan is the best available, but read the fine print -- after 6GB/month you no longer get full 4G speed, it is a decreased speed that they do not seem to disclose anywhere. Also, they specifically point out that it only applies to tethering with your phone.

Do you have any recommended hotspots to use possibly?

With metropcs they only offer phones they do not even sell data devices. Even though they are owned by tmobile they will not allow you to activate a tmobile hotspot under a metropcs plan. Tmobile has slightly higher rates for the same service.

The cheapest data plans I have seen are under sprint. If you want prepaid you can use virgin mobile (which is owned by sprint) and they sell blocks of 6gb for $55. You can get a monthly plan from sprint and get 30gb for $110 but if you exceed it they charge a outrageous $25/gig.

Still which plan you choose is going to greatly depends on coverage. You get much better pricing from tmobile and sprint because they do not have near the coverage att or verizon has.

I know there's devices that you just put your sim in and it works. I wasn't asking for one sold by them, just one in general. Either T-Mobile or unlocked.

The current tmobile hotspot that runs on lte is called a z915. You can get it unlocked if you pay the full $110 for it when you buy it.

Still even if it works to put a metropcs sim in the device you will still hit the 6g cap in the metro pcs plans. There is no way to hide the fact that your are tethering it.

You can for example take a tmobile unlocked iphone (which they do not sell on metropcs) and use their $60 all you use plan with no issues. If you tether it though they will still cap the bandwidth at 6g.

You will not be able to bypass the tethering restrictions by buying some device. They take these limitation very seriously. Without getting into details lets just say I have sat in meeting that discuss how to detect and prevent abuse of the tethering. All the cell companies have software that monitors all accounts. They then look for high utilization accounts and look to see what they are doing. They have fairly long term logs of every site that was accessed and how much data was used. The software will look to see if it appears to be traffic that comes from a android or ios based device or if it appears to be a PC. If is looks suspicious then a person manually looks though the data.

You can try all kinds of fancy root the device and run vpn etc etc but if you get into the top users lists the vendor will look at what you are doing. If they find you are intentionally trying to bypass their restrictions they will have no mercy and will bill you as much as they possibly can. The guys that do this function laugh about how stupid the script kiddies that think they can just run some little software and in effect steal from the cell provider.

So if your goal is that you take the sim out of your phone and run it in a mobile hotspot because it works better than your phone that you can likely do. If your goal is to get something for nothing be prepared to get a big bill in the mail when they catch you.

I note that if your communications between phone & pc are hard-wired, it is possible to hide that fact from the carrier though they still know limits. I have done this to evade slow-down caps but took care not to abuse and attract attention (using no more than 20-25gig/month). New technology also allows porting video output to an external screen which you might say eliminates the idea of tethering altogether but still provides the same results. Data goes through phone (just like hard-wired and no one has to know what you do with it after that) there are ways...

Why don't you take and load wireshark and then use your "wired" connection between the phone and the pc. Open any web page and watch what it sends. You can very clearly see your operating system. It will be very obvious that you are not using a phone when it says you are browsing using windows 8.1

There are many things that can not run on a phone like many flash and java things. These too are extremely obvious. This is assuming you have rooted your phone to hide the fact that you are tethering. Wired or wireless a pc connected using the internet is reported as tethered to the ISP.

The only reason they did not stomp you is you kept your utilization low so they chased the guys that were using more than you. You are gambling that you will not get a huge bill, you do it enough and they will get you. I know many people they have gotten.

They really don't care if you hook a big monitor or keyboard or whatever to your phone. Most times though the devices that can support those options are not in their list of devices they allow "unlimited" plans on.
Pretty much they know that you can not use huge amounts of bandwidth from a phone so they offer unlimited. Some vendors even exclude streaming video from the unlimited now that netflix and yourtube work well on android.
