SMART data is ridiculously cryptic. Test the drive with SeaTools and you'll get a much less cryptic "Pass" or "Fail":

Windows version (to test non-system hard drives): http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/

DOS version (to test system hard drives): http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/downloads/item/seatools-dos-master/

@Fire_Moose, your drive has 41 (= 0x29) reallocated sectors. I'd keep an eye on that particular SMART attribute.

The other attributes look good at the current time.

BTW, I have attempted to explain the "cryptic" attributes in the following article:

Seagate's Seek Error Rate, Raw Read Error Rate, and Hardware ECC Recovered SMART attributes:
http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/Seagate_SER_RRER_HEC.html

As for SeaTools, IMO it is essentially worthless as a SMART tool. If your drive had 2500 bad sectors, SeaTools would still give it a PASS, without giving you any warning of impending doom.

Here is my attempt to clarify CrystalDiskInfo's "cryptic" output.

The SMART_READ_DATA information block consists of 512 bytes reported by the drive in response to the SMART_READ_DATA command. See section 7.48.6 of the ATA standard.

Working Draft ATA/ATAPI Command Set - 3 (ACS-3):
http://nevar.pl/pliki/ATA8-ACS-3.pdf

I have extracted the SMART data here:

00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 0A 0B

The ATA standard refers to the above bytes as "vendor specific" which means that HDD manufacturers are free to define them in any way they wish. That's the reason that many authors of SMART tools misinterpret the SMART data. CrystalDiskInfo is one tool that allows advanced users to examine the raw data for themselves. Note that the second column denotes the attribute type (eg prefail, old_age). Also, some WD models have hidden attributes which are not reported to the user.

The SMART thresholds have a similar layout to the above.

The IDENTIFY DEVICE information block consists of 256 words reported by the drive in response to the ATA IDENTIFY DEVICE command. The drive reports such things as model number, serial number, firmware version, capacity, and feature set. See section 7.16 of the ATA standard.

There are times when the raw IDENTIFY DEVICE data can be very useful. One example is when a drive reports the wrong capacity. Often it is difficult to determine whether this is due to the drive itself, or to a problem in BIOS or the device driver, or something else. A tool such as CrystalDiskInfo is able to interrogate the drive directly.

In the OP's case, words 100 - 103 reflect the total number of sectors (little endian).

100: 66F0 5754 0000 0000

0x575466F0 = 1 465 149 168 sectors

0x575466F0 sectors x 512 bytes per sector = 750.16 GB
