how best to clean braided mouse cable?

I'm wondering what the best way to clean my braided mouse cable is, as it has dust all over it.

i've always used a damp cloth. works well. water works but generally i wipe it with a windex damp cloth when cleaning the desk.

i wouldnt suggest paper products since the residue would stick to the cable.
