I just bought the ASUS 28" 4k monitor and a new PC with an AMD Radeon R5 200 Series card. The max resolution says 1920x1080 and it's so bad it hurts my eyes. How can I get the proper resolution for my setup using Windows 7?

The R5 series has a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 in 2D, maximum 3D Resolution (at 32-bit color) Up to 2560 x 1600 (DVI); up to 4096 x 2160 (HDMI). Just remember HDMI will run at 30hz at 4k.

You may need to either use HDMI or get a new GPU that supports higher resolution display port.

If you end up getting a video card with display port you can change the display port settings in the monitors OSD to enable DP1.2 support.

Not sure I follow this entirely. Does this mean I can only get 2048x1536 with an HDMI cable? If so how come I don't see that resolution, only 1920 as the max? I'd be happy with anything other than 1920 at this point because it hurts my eyes and makes me sad that I dropped $1000 on a monitor that looks like it's resolution is from the 1980s.

If I buy a display port cable and use that will the higher resolution just appear when it boots?

Solution

When I switch to 30hz there are more options but the highest is still 1920x. The monitor only came with a hdmi cable but you say dp is better, is that why it won't show the 4k?

okay I found that. do you mean in the CCC go to My Digital Flat Panels > Properties (Digital flat panel)

If so it says there maximum reported resolution 1920 x 1080

is that the right file I'm checking in the CCC?

I really appreciate your help mate.

this appears to be a tv issue (for many graphics cards and tvs). i have the same problem as of nov 11, 2014. many blogs have stated that this is a factory (RMA) issue. The tv reports the incorrect max resolution to the graphics card. the graphics card isnt going to try to force a tv past what it says it can take for resolution. unfortunately, the factories, in their hast, forget to change the firmware from HD tvs to UHD tvs. its just bad QC on their part.

That is exactly my understanding after talking with Panasonic about their 4D support for the windows display drivers that are generic that down scale 4K even though they shouldn't.
