If it is totally dead and not being recognised in the BIOS you need to spend mega bucks to get that data back, which is why people try and backup their important stuff to clouds/other hard disks.

Good advice, I always keep four external hard drives with identical backups on each one. When one of the externals dies I replace it straight away and copy backups to it from one of the others.
