how can i get data from non-working external hard disk?

my external hard disk is not working, so how can i get data in it?

Not working at all ??? You need specialized service to do it for you. It takes very special (and expensive) equipment.

If a hard drive is malfunctioning, you typically wouldn't try to put any data into it because it'll just get lost anyway.

If it is totally dead and not being recognised in the BIOS you need to spend mega bucks to get that data back, which is why people try and backup their important stuff to clouds/other hard disks.

Good advice, I always keep four external hard drives with identical backups on each one. When one of the externals dies I replace it straight away and copy backups to it from one of the others.

Is the hdd not working or is it the external enclosure (or cable).
