Child is learning windows 11 in school.
I want to set up 11 as virtual machine on windows 10.

Kindly guide if doable by freeware or anyway.

Thanks

If you want to install Microsoft Hyper-V on a Windows 10 system, you'll need the Professional, Education or Enterprise editions. Microsoft claim that Windows 10 Home does not support Hyper-V.

In theory it is possible to install Hyper-V in Windows 10 Home, but I've never tried it.

Your motherboard's BIOS must be set with Virtualization enabled, otherwise Hyper-V won't work. The terminology used to decribe Virtualization in some BIOS settings is quite obscure and tricky to find.

If you have an older CPU (prior to circa 2018) or you don't have TPM 2.0, you might need to tweak the Windows 11 ISO in Rufus, to make it work on old hardware without TPM. There's also something called Virtual TPM in Hyper-V, but I've never investigated it.

You can run Windows 11 (or 10) as a VM on a Windows 10 PC with only 8GB RAM, but it's happier with 16GB. Both operating systems need several GB of RAM each to run reliably.

If you can't get Hyper-V to work, try VirtualBox. You still need to enable Virtualization in the BIOS.
