Hello,

My specs of my pc are:

  • Acre Aspire M3802
    Windows 7 service pack 1
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @2.5GHz
    Ram: 6GB
    Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti
    Power supply: Corsair builder series CX 600 Watt ATX/EPS 80 plus bronze

    Picture in link of CPU-z stats: http://imgur.com/C3Mkfda

I wanted to know if there was anything i can do to make the computer run smoother. As sometimes i like to record my gameplay. Also sometimes twitch (usually do via my xbox one which has no issue, but my pc seems to lack the capacity to run smooth when i do)

I attempted to make it smoother by first buying a bigger power supply, i went from 400W to 600W, and then changed my graphics card from 512mb to 2GB. For some reason this dident make much of an effect of gameplay to be honest, i assumed by having a much larger graphics card and power supply it would run alot more smoother and also a higher FPS. This did not seem to be the case.

Im assuming this is to do with my CPU capacity. I wanted to know if i was to overclock my processor, would it make a difference?

Or any other options.

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply,

Also with i have never overclocked before,i sort of know how to do my graphics, but my CPU im clueless, how do i go about that? and how much do you suggest i overclock by?

Hello, yes i bought prebuilt, and added the 660 and power supply upgrades. ( had to buy the power as the original power supply could not manage the new graphics card )

Sorry about that last msg about the gpu and psu. i forgot you already mentioned it in the post. try ocing your gpu and see if that gives you favorable results. Put the power limit to 105-110 and increase your core and memory clocks by about 10mhz apply and play an intensive game/start a benchmark to see if the card is stable.

OC your GPU. Download MSI Afterburner. And install it, Open it and there will be a couple different sliders. adjust the sliders accordingly to what i said in the last post. There are also a lot of tutorials on how to oc your gpu on youtube. I recommend linus tech tips. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gA_l5-HDel4

That Quadcore CPU is not going to be easy to OC it's possible but it's a bit more technical and advanced since you have to try old school methods like messing with the multiplier and increasing FSB. You have to know what you are really doing if you want to OC that thing.

He has a business grade motherboard, overclocking might not even be possible for him due to it being locked in the bios.

Since your CPU is quite old and might be holding your GPU back, eventually i would definitely upgrade it. It all depends on what you like to play since different games are more demanding than others.

A cheap yet powerful cpu is the AMD Athlon 860k. It is about twice the power of you current cpu and wouldnt break the bank.

@machoAlbatross,

Yes i have considered upgrading my cpu, only issue i had was thinking what my motherboard can handle.
i didnt know if i should just buy a brand new motherboard and then get something like an i7 cpu.
Do you know what type of processor my motherboard can handle?

Your motherboard should be able to support up to a Core 2 Quad Q9650, however i dont think it would be a big upgrade at all. If you can afford a nice Intel cpu, i would get something like an i5 6600k with a nice z170 motherboard. The extra $100 spent on an i7 isnt really worth it.

@MachoAlbatross,

oh really, so i7's are not really worth the extra $$?

I was thinking about getting something like:
Intel Core i7 4790K 4GHz Socket 1150 8MB L3 Cache
MSI Z97A GAMING 6

Actually, if you were to pick a 4790k up right now, it would be a very good deal. They are $299 right now on newegg (depending on where you live) If you have DDR3 RAM in your current PC i would go with either a 4690k/4790k

@MachoAlbatross

I live in the UK, so i think the prices might be a little different.

Im just very unsure what to get, i thought i could boost the pc i have, but it seems like that dreams dead haha.
I guess i will just have to build a new pc, in regards to processors, does it matter if their dual core, quad core? ( or am i just talking nonsense)

What kind of games do you play?

Im not an intence gamer tbh, as in i dont play for 4k res. Play abit of CS, Skyrim, fallout 4, GTA and Call of duty.
i want a pc i can play all games smooth on medium quality tbh, and be able to live stream without lag issues

Ah, ok. Well the 4 extra threads the i7 has will def help with streaming and recording. (The i7 4790k is a quad core with 8 threads) http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qfnHZL That link has the cpu, cooler, and motherboard. If you arent overclocking you dont need that cpu cooler. Also, is your RAM DDR3?

I was just looking about for a affordable cpu, would you say AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0GHz is great for high level gamiing
