I have win 10 in my notebook that has 4 gbytes. I do not use this notebook too often, but when i do, i am greeted with updates.Slow as it is with that little ram, it was passable for the little time i used it. Now with these constant updates beyond that October release last year, it seems that its getting sluggish. I cannot "X" and close certain sites...it has no effect. As for that recent change in windows explorer, its impossible to get past "Quick access" to my C drive and main folders. I've tried clicking on all those arrows to no effect. I was trying to get to my Download folder, but cannot get to it. I was thinking maybe a good scan might clear up some of the problem....but i cannot even get to the site to create a scan. The more upgrades, i feel it won't work at all. I can't add anymore ram to this Acer Aspire One-722. It has a 284 gb HD and 198 gb's free. I thought by removing the last couple of updates, it might resolve itself, but i went to security and updates and nothing appears there...so i cannot even remove the updates. This is a typical win 10 problem when it enters later updates. I'm writing this from my desktop with Win 7. I send an email from that desktop to myself and Thunderbird does not show it, Spam or inbox.

Updates shouldn't be slowing PC down, not if you have 198gb free. Removing them will hardly help either.

try this:

right click start button

choose powershell (admin)

copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow

and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files

SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

if its an actual hdd and not a ssd, could run defrag on it.

how old is it? is it the original hdd? could be its age, might want to run Crystal disk info (Blue icon) - https://crystalmark.info/en/
It will show the smart score of drive. check its health.
