A while ago I bought my pc off ebay. It came with windows 8 already installed. The guy who sold it said that he built the pc and decided not to use it so he was selling it. I've upgraded to windows 8.1 and now to windows 10. How can I to check if my OS is OEM?

Solution

1. Run Belarc Advisor. Somewhere in that report it may or may not say "OEM".
2. For any used PC, your first move should have been a full wipe and reinstall of the OS. For your protection and his.

It says it under software licenses for internet explorer but that's the only thing I could find that as OEM in it.

Another way to test is to go here and attempt to download the relevant Win 8 ISO.
It will ask for your license key (Do you know what it is/was?). If Retail, it will proceed. If OEM, it will tell you.
