How Do I Backup and Restore Wireless Router Settings?

What are Wireless Router Settings?

When you purchase a wireless router for your home or office network, you configure it by modifying its settings according to your personal preferences or the organization’s norms. Such configurations may include modifying the IP address range for local area network, selecting the most appropriate encryption method, the name of the SSID, the visibility of the configured SSID, logon credentials, and so on. Each organization or home network may have different settings as per the needs or norms.

Why Backing Up Wireless Router Settings Is Important?
You might spend a decent amount of time configuring your router, which may be from just a few hours of a day to several days or weeks. When you purchase wireless router and configure it according to your requirement, there might different types of settings that are complex and involve several steps when configured properly and accurately. Whenever you lose your wireless router settings due to some reasons such as power fluctuation, etc., you need to go through the entire configuration process right from the scratch. To avoid and/or completely eliminate such situations, it becomes important to back up the wireless router settings.

When the settings are backed up, they are saved in a single file which has the extension of .CFG. This .CFG file can be restored in case the wireless router is factory reset, or any other identical wireless router is to be configured with the same settings.
