How do I block China from my accessing my computer

Several times my PC, WoW & G Mail accounts were compromised by Chinese crackers/hackers and I've installed several security applications on my computer and that still seems to fail to some extent. I've also noticed that PeerBlock the successor to Peer Guardian is constantly blocking china but I Want block China from my firewall/router and on the kernel level and I do not have any idea how to. I see articles for blocking china from accessing a website or a server but not a personal home desktop or even a workstation OS/PC other then perhaps Linux. I Use 2 PCs one with Windows XP and another with Windows 7 Home Premium. How can I B lock China?

Here is the issue, most hacks happen because you clicked on something or went to a fake website. No amount of firewalls or virus scans will help you there.

Re-install Windows, don't install 20 different security programs, and don't click on "hot chicks wanting to see you now!" links. You probably also need to re-do your email accounts. If you have a router, you should be set with a firewall, get a good A/V prgram like Avira, Malwarebytes to run a scan onece in a while, and you should be set.

Even if you find out every IP and domain name in China, any hacker worthy of the name can spoof any IP to fake our your settings.

Sigh that was an extremely rude comment from a jerk and not an expert. I don't visit porn sites period. I've personally Blocked all of them Via OpenDNS and using Parental Controls so that no one can visit Websites from my computer, network and online connection period. Like you said at the end anyone can spoof their way around around security measures they could hijack a common website using exploits within an operation system/browser. So if you do not have a real solution do not bother to reply..

Now this Laptop was given to me as a gift and unlike my old custom built XP gaming machine i built in 05 I do not have the luxury to Reformat my hardrive and reinstall windows. Thanks to Mr. Bush's Bad Economy I no longer work in a pristine job so I cannot afford to purchase a retail copy of Win7 without sacrificing food. My family's only luxury is the internet, we held a meeting and decided that the internet is far more useful then cable, and other none essential services and luxuries.

You may have considered hang-the-9 answer rude (although it seemed like pretty sensible advice to me), but it was accurate. There is just no way that you can "block China". And I do wonder why you have so much of a problem.

I run a simple firewall + MSE and have no problem whatsoever with unwanted attempts to access my computer. You really don't need to run 12 security programs. The firewall on your router should be blocking all of this before it gets to your computer.

People offer their advice here for free. It's really not very nice to call someone "a jerk and not an expert" just because you don't like the advice they give. If you don't think the advice is applicable then ignore it, but why go out of your way to alienate people who are trying to help you? Politeness costs nothing.

What would be nice - is a way to block all non-US domains and IP's... I haven't yet seen / heard a way to do it.

and why? I have no interest to view / access sites from anywhere in Africa, Europe (with the exception of the UK), Russia, Asia, China (except .TW, 'cause we need to download drivers), India, or South America. While my ISP can't block them for legal reasons (I believe), *I* could still do as I please... yes, despite the potentially 'spoofed' addresses. Paranoid much? Doesn't matter. I'd like the choice 😉

Lots of things would be nice but aren't possible (like me owning a Ferrari).

But you can choose not to view/access sites outside your area of interest and a firewall will stop them accessing you, so it's not a huge priority to me. Now blocking mail from particular countries would be useful - that's why I run my own mail server. :)

From everything you've said, you have something already ON your system, and it's probably opened a bunch of back doors. There are plenty of things out there that once they are on your system, it's too late - they can and do hide themselves from all those security programs. You don't have to actually "go to" a bad website to get something bad, hackers will get an ad on a tumbler type ad service, and those ads will show up on perfectly clean and legit websites, and if you are using IE - you probably got them. (FireFox with NoScript - FTW)

Especially since you say you "keep" getting hacked, it's still there.

The best solution is wiping the partitions on your hard drive and doing a clean install (do all this after disconnecting the computer from any and all internet connections until after you get a clean install - and then run ONLY Windows Update). You have said you can't do this because you don't have the CD media to do a restore? If it's a Dell, HP or another name-brand, you can probably order that media from them (over the phone since your computer is compromised) for a small mailing fee.

(And take your politics to another forum please)

The laptop should have a Windows license sticker on it with the license key. You should be able to reinstall Windows using any install media you can find and activate it using the license key. The value is in the key, not in the media.

If you don't have a key, that's unfortunate. I agree with the others that if your system has already been compromised, then the only sure way to eliminate all potential problems is to reinstall from scratch.

If you just use the Internet for browsing, e-mail, etc. and if there really is no way you can reinstall Windows or afford to buy a new copy of it (I imagine pretty cheap copies of XP would be available on eBay) then you might consider downloading and installing one of the Linux-based systems. They have all of the standard Internet tools built-in.

Having multiple security programs is a problem, not a solution.

they conflict with each other and create holes in the software that can be exploited.

get a good firewall, and a good anti virus. that's all you need. do a clean install of windows to make sure you have gotten rid of any currently hiding malicious code, and be more careful in future about what you click. the fact of the matter is, no one gets singled out to be hacked. its ALWAYS to do with places you are visiting and software you are downloading. Having good security software only fixes part of the problem.

Get a router with built in firewall and block Chinese (well Asia and Russia as well) address ranges. Make sure you change the default password as common routers often have such info pasted all over the net and are easy to guess. The Linksys Routers are popular in the modding community so you can find tutorials on flashing them for extra security. You can also do neat things with modded firmware such as running them as small servers or using them as wireless access points.

Im sorry, but all of that is pointless.

Its like fortifying your house with barbed wire and AA emplacements to keep spiders away.

Decent software and a sensible attitude to browsing is all you need. I haven't had a problem with hacks or viruses in years, and I'm using windows firewall and avira. And i make sure I don't go clicking random links without knowing where they lead.

I use the same combo with the same results. I do run Malwarebytes every few months even though it never finds anything. Hard to beat sensible browsing.

First, you need to dump just about all of this. Uninstall all but CCleaner and then download and install Malwarebytes. Use Malwarebytes to scan your systems and remove any junk it finds. When Malwarebytes is done finding stuff, run CCleaner to clean out your temp files and to clean up your registry.

What anti-virus program are you using? I recommend you consider Microsoft Security Essentials. It is free, works well with all flavors of Windows and gets updated like the rest of Windows/Office.

Next, what firewall/router are you using? If it is locked down (typical default settings with NO open ports), bad guys can't get into your systems via the NAT firewall. That being the case, you must have something else going on.

You really can't block "China" from trying to access your firewall from the outside world. You can keep it out of your network though.

Each post I read like this makes me more and more frustrated.

Like the OP said, unless you have a real answer to his question then: please, don't lecture us about what websites to visit, what to not click on, what to not download.

I wish to block access from China AT MY ROUTER so I can stop being bothered by hackers trying to break in.

I recently installed an SSH server so that I could access my PC remotely. Today I just saw someone trying to gain root access, from China.

I know that they have bots setup to randomly check US IP addresses and look for points where they can get in (such as an SSH server). I'd rather not have to be bothered by pop-ups telling me yet again another annoying Chinese hacker is poking at my ports. I'd rather have my router simply ignore them and not let anything through...
