How do I change the default Windows 8.1 Sign-in Option?

I have added a PIN as an Sign-in Option in a new Windows 8.1 PC. Despite this, the default sign-in option is always the Password, not the PIN.

When I did this on a previous PC, it thereafter defaulted to prompting me for the PIN. In this case, I have to click on Sign-in Options each time, then click PIN, then enter PIN - too many steps.

How can I change the default sign-in option in Windows 8.1 so I can enter a PIN without the extra clicks?

Thanks Vembutech. I had already looked at those pages, to no avail. What should happen is that the sign-in option I chose most recently would be remembered and become the default option the next time I log in. That does not happen.

Although I've seen many other threads reporting this issue, I'm starting to wonder if my specific deviation from Windows 8.1 Sign-in behavior is related to the FaceID technology on my ASUS computer. On the Windows 8.1 Sign-in screen, when I click on Sign-in Options, I see that the ASUS FaceID icon is always the highlighted icon, rather than the PIN or Password icons. However, since I have not enabled FaceID, the default sign-in option actually displayed is the password input box.

I'd love to hear if anyone else has seen a possible correlation between an unexpected default Sign-in Option and ASUS FaceID. In many searches, I've not yet found any threads that seems to connect these two.

I had the same issue and searched Google as you did. All answers told me to select PIN, log off and back on to make the change. It did not work the same as you. You hit the nail on the head when you specified using an ASUS computer with face recognition. If you uninstall the ASUS face recognition application under uninstall software in control panel your PIN default log in issue will be resolved. Be aware of course that face recognition sign in, if you are using it, will no longer function or be an option.

I have an Asus N551J which was preloaded with Windows8 which was upgraded to 10. Months later after an update, I was forced to perform a clean install. After the install, I noticed I cant keep an preferred login type. It keeps going to the generic password option rather than sticking to PIN.
