How do I connect my pc to my sceptre tv

I can't seem to connect my dell pc to my sceptre x37 naga. My computer does not have a HDMI port, so I used a DVI to HDMi cable from my computer to my TV and nothing. I then used a DVI to HDMI adapter on my computer to connect HDMI to HDMI, and nothing. Then I tried VGA; my computer does not have VGA, so I used a DVI to VGA adapter on my computer then a VGA cable from the computer to the tv's VGA port, and nothing. I haven't the faintest clue what I'm doing, and have no idea if I have yet to exhaust the myriad of methods to connect the computer to the tv. Please help.

Did you enable the HDTV has a secondary monitor in your graphic card's control panel? The VGA solution should have worked.
