How do I create a local non-internet wireless network for connecting three wifi devices?

Hi.

Can anyone help with the following please?

I have two Sony SRS-HG1 portable speakers which are currently connected to my main home wifi network and are controlled via an app on my Samsung tablet. The speakers can be and are configured for Wireless stereo operation. They are paired on the wifi network, with one for left channel the other for right channel.
A wireless connection is required for this configuration and the speakers are controlled with the Songpal App. It only requires an internet connection to stream from Spotify or other music streaming sites and for any firmware updates that the speakers require.

For my normal use I don't really use the streaming sites, I connect my media player to one of the speakers via an audio cable and the wireless stereo function is controlled via the app on the tablet across the wifi network.

I would like to know the best way to create a local private wireless network using a battery/usb powered portable wifi router so that I can use it with the above configuration anywhere. I don't want an internet connection or ISP involvement with this "go anywhere" configuration. The wireless network range only needs to be about 5-10 metres.

Can anyone also recommend a suitable portable wireless router that I can use to achieve the above setup?

Thanks in advance for any help.

i'm not 100% certain on this but i believe a hotspot is only on devices that can get a cellular data signal. so if the tablet is 3g enabled, then it should have the option.

an old cheap cell phone you or a friend probably has in their drawer somewhere should have the option as well. would be a cheap way to go about it, though the battery life is rather low takes a hit when it is active.

if you can plug the device in, then a cheap wifi router is all you need. it'll let stuff connect together despite not having net access. this is what folks do for LAN parties you may have heard about. create a simple local LAN and everyone connects to it. you could get a cheap router and set it up to connect everything to. that would work as well.
i don't think i have ever seen a battery powered router. never looked for one but have not run across one before.

it's possible you could use the hotspot on a phone/tablet to make the needed wifi connection for the speakers to use. would not need a data connection but this might be an easy way to make a wifi network. an old phone or tablet for this purpose could be an easy solution. at least it's the only one i can think of right now.

Hi Math Geek

Thanks

It doesn't have to be battery powered but would be handy if were. I've got a Samsung tab 3 8.0 but not sure how I would set up a wifi hot spot on it.

I'm not sure this will work, but.... Look at a wireless hard drive. There are several manufacturers. There also battery powered travel routers that people use in places with eithernet only connections or pay per device wifi. Some without an internal battery will take power over USB so could use an external battery.

One of these types of devices may be what you need.

Well. I've solved the problem. I purchased a Netgear PR2000 Trek travel router. Works perfectly and setup in less than 5 mins.
Did not need an internet connection at all. I can connect my mobile phone to it and control the speakers from the app that is used to setup and control them remotely.
Running it from a USB battery pack and my speakers are now working independently on their own wireless network. The system is totally portable and I can listen to my Hi-res audio anywhere I like. Thank you for your replies they helped guide me to the solution.
