how do i disable colour ink cartridges in canon mg2540?

I am using a Canon MG2540 three-in-one printer. I select "grayscale" every time I print. However, the color cartridge still gets used. Is there any way that I can prevent the color cartridge from being used?

No you can't do that I'm afraid. Greyscale printing still requires a small amount of the other three colours to produce the correct shades of grey if the document contains pictures or drawings.

I suppose you could use the CMY sliders in the printer preferences to turn them down as low as they will go just before printing. That might save on color ink usage, but the shades of grey might look a little odd if you did that.
