My problem is that, Proscan(police scanner software) is always recording external noise(chair squeaking, door squeaking, verbal conversation, typing on keyboard) along with scanner traffic. The program developer suggested I disable the internal microphone in my PC. While that is sound advice, at first. The only microphone I know of, is part of my webcam. I use that several times a week. Is there a way of doing this w/o disabling my webcam?

What kind of system are we talking? Desktop? Laptop?

If a laptop, the mic & webcam should be able to be disabled independent of each other. The same would be true with a desktop USB webcam or something - but if you do use the mic from time to time, it would be far simpler to disconnect the webcam when not in use, and plug it in where required.
