How do I enable USB 3.0 and PCI-e on my Asus H97M-E motherboard?

Hello folks,

My name is Zsolt, I am from Hungary. This is my very post in the Forum. I just upgraded my PC following some research here on Tom's Hardware.

Here's my new config:
- Motherboard: Asus H97M-E
- CPU: Intel Core i5 4460
- RAM: 2x 4GB Crucial 1600 Mhz, CLS9
- Graphics: Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
- HDD: Samsung 1TB 7200 rpm
- Power supply: Cool Master 600 W

OS: Windows 7 Professional x64, Service pack 1

Now, the graphics card and the HDD came from my old PC, but the first three components are newly bought.

I spent a good portion of Saturday to assemble everything, connect everything, then re-install Windows 7. Basically everything well, however I ran into some issues after installing the OS and the drivers from the motherboard CD.

Here are the two errors:

1. After installing the USB 3.0 drivers from the motherboard's CD, all USB ports stop working. Not only the blue ones, but the regular black ones too. No matter which port I plugged my mouse into, it just wouldn't work. Once I removed the USB 3.0 drivers, the USB port worked again normally. This issue affects both the rear and front-end USB ports. What do think the problem is about? Is it the OS? Do I need to upgrade it? Or do I need to set something up in the BIOS?

2. This one is a bit harder to describe, but somehow it involves the PCI connections. When I open the Start menu then Device manager (where it lists all connected devices like webcam, printers, etc) I see an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle next to my PC. When I try to get Windows to find solution it indicates some issue with PCI-e. Then it tries to solve the issue, but after a while says that it can't solve it. I am sorry that I cannot be more clear, but my OS' language is Hungarian. Do you guys have any idea what this issue may be about? Driver problem or BIOS setting or something else? My only PCI-e card (the Radeon) seems to work fine.

Hope you can help me out here as I'm no PC builder guru by any means. But I do want to enjoy everything my new PC can offer.

Thank you so much in advance. Just ask me if you need any more clarification on any of the above problems.

Have a great day!

Zsolt

Check the Asus support website for latest bios and drivers (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H97ME/HelpDesk_Download/). Download the latest versions and see if that helps, update bios first (if needed) and then install the chipset drivers rest after that.

I updated the BIOS and the drivers to the latest versions. All went well. However, the problems remained. Even though I installed the latest USB 3.0 drivers, the USB ports wouldn't work, unless I uninstall the USB 3.0 drivers.

And also the Device Manager indicates that there is an unknown device named "simple PCIE communication". Windows can't fix this error. Neither can I, unfortunately.

So, any other tips, hints, suggestions are welcomed!

Do the USB 3 ports work like they should without the driver? If they do then don't worry about that part. Also you could install Intel drive update utility (http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu) which checks for the latests chipset etc drivers directly from Intel (motherboard manufacturers don't always keep their support pages up to date with latest drivers).

Edit. Or you can also use https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/20775/Intel-Chipset-Device-Software-INF-Update-Utility-.

Edit 2. Here's a direct link for the latest Intel USB 3 drivers: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/22824/USB-3-0-Driver-Intel-USB-3-0-eXtensible-Host-Controller-Driver-for-Intel-8-9-Series-and-C220-C610-Chipset-Family.

Hm odd I've got the same mobo in the lounge and all ports work. The only things I installed were windows, the chipset drivers

Didnt have to install USB 3 drivers (this is Windows 8 tho, so may make a diff)

Double click on the simple PCIE communication entry go to the details tab. Change it to hardware ids. Copy and paste whats there in here
