Hello,
ive just bought a new hard drive which im using as a mass storage device, when i plug it into my usb the computer recognises it but its not showing up in my computer im using vista, when i plug my memory stick in it works ok anyone got any ideas what to do?

With external hard drives, Windows often fails to assign a drive letter to it, and no drive letter means it won't appear in the drives window.

Go here:
Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management

In the bottom-right panel, find the ribbon which relates to your external hard drive. It will have no drive-letter, no name, and will show as "Raw".

Right-click that ribbon and choose "Change Drive Letter & Paths".
Click "Add".
Choose a drive-letter.
Click 'OK'

thx phil i was right clicking in the wrong place, i have now formatted the disk with a drive letter and all is good again ty
