How do I get my desktop shortcuts to work on vista?

how do I get my desktop shortcuts to work on vista? when i try to open them all i get is a box that shows secutiry, properties and so on.

Offhand it sounds as though your mouse buttons are reversed - or you are a victim of malware. First, try launching a program by double clicking with the right mouse button. If you cannot open the shortcuts that way you'll need to follow the instructions in this post http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/248626-45-simple-free-guide-removing-malware
If you can navigate using the right mouse button instead of the left, you can go into the control panel and change the mouse button attributes so that the left button launches...
