[SOLVED] How do I get my USB 3.0 to work properly?

Hello. I have a Gigabyte GA-x79-UD3 motherboard, which comes with two USB 3.0 ports. I am trying to install a VR headset on my computer to check out what the fuss is all about, but I am running into an issue. The headset requires an HDMI and USB 3.0 connection. When plugged into the USB 3.0 port in the mother board, it is only recognized as 2.0. Windows Mixed Reality says my computer only has USB 2.0 ports.

Here are the solutions I have tried. I have plugged my headset into both USB 3.0 ports to make sure one of them was not faulty. I have gone into device manager and tried to update the drivers of the USB root hub, but all of them are up to date. I have gone into Windows update to make sure the OS is completely current. I went into Troubleshooting and had it look for any hardware issues. There was a small update, but I still was given an error on Microsoft Mixed Reality. I also tried deleting drivers and reinstalling them with no success. I have the most updated Bios version and went into the Bios to make sure USB 3.0 was enabled.

I wanted to know if there were any suggestions on how I can solve this issue. I was thinking of just adding a USB 3.0 expansion card, but I did not want to spend any extra money when my computer already has USB 3.0. I would appreciate any suggestions on what to try out next to get the ports working properly. If you need any more information about my system, please let me know. Thank you.

Looking at Revision 1.0 of the motherboard, fourteen USB 2.0 ports are controlled by the X79 chipset. The USB 3.0/2.0 are controlled by the 2 x Fresco FL1009 chips on both motherboard revisions.

Fresco USB 3.0 driver may not be available for your operating system. You may try using the driver for an older OS or installing it in compatibility mode.
you have made sure you have installed all the available Gigabyte software/utilities? and also made sure you are using the blue USB ports?
if everything's up to date, the BIOS is showing USB 3.0 enabled and there's no errors in Device Manager's Universal Serial Bus controllers > Root Hub (USB 3.0) possibly reinstalling Windows could help.

if you have a USB 3.1 type A, try using that instead.

"I have gone into Windows update to make sure the OS is completely current. "

Go to the Gigabyte website and download the USB driver for your revision of the motherboard...there are different drivers for rev 1 and 1.1 and so on...Windows update can not be trusted to grab the correct driver.

Solution
Hi everyone,

I just wanted to update you on my progress. I tried out all of the things that were suggested to me. I checked the utilities from Gigabyte for my motherboard and saw that everything was up to date. I double checked to made sure I was using the actual USB 3.0 slot, and it was properly connected. I downloaded the USB 3.0 drivers from Gigabyte and was going to try compatibility mode to get it to work. After I was deleted the old drivers for a fresh install, two Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible host controller drivers appeared in device manager. Before trying a fresh driver install, I checked the headset, and it was good to go. I guess Windows 10 had innate support already, and the drivers I got off the gigabyte website had a compatibility issue. Everything works now. Thank you all for your postings. I appreciate you taking the time.
