I have my PS3 hooked up to my monitor through HDMI (even though my monitor doesn't have speakers) and I often talk to my friends on Skype while playing, but since I'm using my headset I can't get any sound through my PS3.

I've went and purchased a digital optical cable because someone from this thread:
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1871875/ps3-audio-speakers.html
said that you could just put the optical cable into your pc and the other end into your PS3 and it'd work...
but I tried and it didn't work.

I was wondering if there was any way I could get my PS3 audio to run through my PC so I can hear my PC sounds and PS3 sounds at the same time through the same headset using the optical cable?

Thanks,
Adam

edit: going to return cable

Solution
you'll need to plug to a stereo jack in the back of the pc and tell it it's an input that way you get the combined sound from the pc and ps3, should work

haha thanks for the reply and i realised that... im going to go buy a stereo jack adapter tomorrow and see if that works

and regarding your question my monitor doesnt have speakers and i dont use speakers :)

Yep im planning on getting that adapter and using the av multiout, putting one end in ps3 then putting the appropriate audio ends (red and white?) into the adapter and finally the adapter into the blue stereo slot in my pc 😀 i hope that works
