how do i install authentic on top of fake windows?

I also posted this in the setup section. Not sure what
this falls under. I had a counterfeit xp pro disk
installed (which I found out when I tried to update to
service pack 1). Now, I have an authentic xp pro FULL
version disk. I don't think I should RE-install the whole
thing on top of the counterfeit installation. Not sure
what to do.

Jennifer, go into the Bios and set the Cdrom as first boot device. Then
do a clean install. You can
format the hard drive with the WinXP CD. Check here for further info

I am not sure about that only because I posted a question
similar to this when I first found out that my disk was
fake (before I got this new one) and someone from
microsoft answered. They said something about doing a
repair, they didn't say anything about doing a clean
install. That said, I have since lost the original post!

You need to purchase and use a _legitimate_ full retail copy of
WinXP Pro to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation,
using the new CD and Product Key.
