Hey guys i dont have a clue here what i am doing, I hear you have to copy windows 7 on to disk first before i download it to my hard dirve. Ok, I already downloaded the windows 7 rc and open it with winrar. Now this is where i am confused, what files do i copy on to disk? Can you guys guide me through this setup because i know you guys are pro's at this . I know this is something simple but please Help.

Thank You,

Ah. I did this, and burned about 3 coasters before I realised something. The Windows 7 download is already an iso file. I burned what I had to disc, and ran that. It worked first time.

This was after about an hour of swearing at my PC, the hard drive, the disc drive, the BIOS, the disc, and random people in the street.

You'll have a file called xxx.sometext.iso

Download and install imgburn --> http://www.imgburn.com/

Put a blank DVD in your drive

Open ImgBurn. Choose 'Write image file to disc'. Select the iso file.

Reboot and boot of the disc.

An ISO is a DVD/CD image meaning it contains all the data including file structure of the disk in a single file. That is why it can be mounted by virtual DVD software and run like any other DVD. It can also be burned to a DVD, preserving the same file structure. You have to do it differently to how you would normally burn a data DVD though. The above post explains one method, but just about any DVD burning software can do it.

gagaga's got it right. The ISO file contains an "image" of a Windows install disk complete with boot sector, install folders, etc. What you want is to use software that understands the ISO format and uses it to create a DVD in that image.

The end result should NOT be a DVD with the ".ISO" file on it, but rather a DVD with a boot sector, install folders and programs, etc. Once you've got that you can put it into a system and boot from it to install Windows 7.

+1 for Magic ISO and Magic Disc

8.5GB is dual layer but unless you have a burner that can do dual layer it can only hold a max of 4.7GB.
