Question How do i know the activate code for the windows?

Hi,
I have windows 8.1 and I want to upgrade to windows 10 my 8.1 windows are legally activated so when I start the upgrade processor I choose the option "keep my data" it asks me for the windows activate number so how do I know the windows activate number? and is the "keep my data" option really gonna save my data?

Where did the 8.1 license come from?
From a valid Win 8.1 OS, it should not ask for the existing license key.

Where did the 8.1 license come from? I have a Dell laptop Inspiron 15 3000 series it came with the laptop
and I don't think the license key is expired

A Win 8.1 that came with the original Dell won't/can't "expire".

Can you show us a screencap of where it asks for the license key?
