A company requested for the hardware fingerprint of my computer to enable them install the 'give you a permanent password' on their program that would operate their data collection equipment that we have purchased.
 
You should ask them the question.

For instance, if I Google you question "Hardware fingerprint" I find this helpful information from one company that uses that term.

The hardware fingerprint is an identification number for the computer system that the product is going to be installed on. We use this identification number to help prevent piracy.

When you run the CD-ROM it will ask you for a key and provide the hardware fingerprint for you to send to us. We will then return a key that will allow you to unlock the program
