How do I make a new computer running wWindows 7 run Windows XP?

I have a new HP Pavillion desktop running windows 7. I also have the hard disk from my old computer that ran windows xp installed in the new computer to make all my old files available. I'd like to make the machine boot up into windows xp off the old hard disk to enable me top run my old programs that wont work with windows 7. If I change the bios to make it boot off the old HD, it starts to boot but quits befoe it gets up and running. How can I make it work?

It won't work - That version on the old drive was configured on a completely different computer, MOBO, hardware devices etc. You need to assign a new partition to Install the XP OS on the new machine, ie, Dual Bootl
