How do I make windows default to a different HD

I reformatted my computer and just installed windows 7 again. I have a SSD (C drive) which i installed windows on and i also have a normal HD (D drive). WIndows defaults everything to the C drive.

What i want to do is have everything default to the D drive and for nothing else to get installed on the SSD as it is pretty small and i dont want silly downloads going to it without me realizing it. Can someone help? thanks

when you install a program, direct it to install to the D: drive.

yeah i can do that, but i want it to default to it.

there was a registry item to change, but ive heard it causes problems in win7, where in xp it worked perfectly. i would just point it to D when installing something new.
