I just recently built a new system and used an old hard drive with windows on it. How could I wipe the hard drive and move windows to my new SSD?

Is this possible?

Solution

How much total used space is on the current C drive?
How large is the new SSD?

If it fits, these steps:
Download and install Macrium Reflect. Or if a Samsung SSD, the Samsung Data Migration.
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old...

Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just as like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.

Solution
You cant move windows. You can however format the old drive and freshly install windows on the new ssd using a pen drive or a windows disk.Dont forget to backup important data(pictures, videos, software) before you format your old drive

Ofcourse you can. What on earth are you talking about?

Sure you can. Cloning from one drive to another is a proven technique.

My HDD is using up a few hundred gigs more than my SSD so ill hv to delete some files. Anyway, thanks!
