[SOLVED] How do I prevent framerate drops on a 75hz monitor when my laptops display is 120?

this is what I "think" is happening....

so when I have no hdmi plugged in my laptop I get very good fps on low or high settings....when I plug in a 75hz monitor I get huge dips.

Is there a way to "turn off"the 120hz or "cap" somehow my framerate to just the external monitor.

incase you may wonder why i dont use my laptop display....its to tiny for my eyes....

i7 2.6ghz
GeForce GTX 1660 TI

Go to windows settings, system, display, click on advanced display settings. Make sure your monitor is selected in top box, then go down the page to refresh rate box and see if you can change it to 75hz.
