How do I reuse a RAID pair?

Assume that I have two hard disks in a RAID setup on a normal desktop computer and I want to transport this pair to a new computer, is it a matter of simply plugging it out and plugging into the new system like we usually do for a normal hard drive? or is there any preparation needed on the new desktop to accommodate the hard disk pair?

Do the same rules apply for RAID pairs made from external portable hard drives as well?
