How do I set up the Adafruit 2.8" pitft display with the raspbian pixel OS?

I am wondering how to set up the Adafruit 2.8" pitft with the raspbian pixel os. I was looking on the adafruit website and they only list instructions and downloads for the older operating systems. Is it the same procedure to set it up? I'm completely new to the raspberry pi and i would like to make it atleast portable if not wireless.

If I was you, I would start with supported OS (at least that's much easier on RPi). Make sure the display works the way you want it to work - both from hardware and software point, only after that move it to another system / OS.
