Question How do I set up two monitors, two keyboards and two mice in two different rooms to work with one computer?

I live in a three story townhome. I would like to be able to access my computer from the 3rd floor room and from a room on the 1st floor. I will be the only one using the computer. So basically, I am hoping there is a gadget that allows me to have only a monitor, keyboard and mouse on one of the floors and on the other would be the computer, a monitor, keyboard and mouse. My goal is to avoid having to have two PC's and to be able to access the same software and files whether on my first floor or third. A wireless solution is desired. I appreciate any help, including even just pointing me in a direction. (I've done some Googling and can't really find what I am looking for.)

It's possible. There are software for Windows at least that you can use multiple keyboards/mice on the same computer. Your only limitation would be finding a long enough cord that will snake through to your 3rd room and 1st floor for all that to happen. And I'm not sure if that's feasible in your configuration, but there are software such as teamplayer and there is a receiver as well that can handle multiple inputs. Good luck!

Thanks so much for your quick response and the info. Could you tell me what kind of cord I would need? I am open to feeding a cord through my walls (my boyfriend says he can do that... he did it for his own house too).

Thank you so much for the info and your quick response. Could you tell me (1) the name of the cord I would need and (2) The name of the receiver. I'm completely ignorant about this stuff so just need the technical terms so I know what to search for. Thanks again!

You don't need some software. I have no problems having an USB keyboard + Mouse and BT Keyboard + Mouse connected to one same PC.

The cords he probably means:
a) Ultra Long USB cable, which will go from the third floor down to the first floor for the keyboard an mouse (forget using BT ones, it won't work, too far. Or you simply use some BT/Wireless dongle at the end of the USB cable in the first floor). But I recommend to have the USB cable nearby so you can connect another USB devices (phone, USB Sticks etc.)

b) Ultra Long HDMI/DP/VGA/DVI/whatever display cable you want to connect to your monitor...

I've got some questions:
Question 1: Do you need sound?
Question 2: Why you don't just buy a notebook? It's portable and you'll have everything at one place.

You big problem is the monitor. You have to consider the bandwidth. Things like 4k or very high refresh rate monitors use huge bandwidth just getting that to fit on wifi is crazy to think about. You have to remember that the monitor is uncompressed video. It is not uncommon for people to be pushing multiple gigabits/sec between the video card and the monitor. If you can even find something you are going to have to turn the resolution way down.

These devices fall in the germinal catagory called KVM but I don't know if they make wifi based ones. I suspect cost wise you are going to be better off using a laptop and use remote desktop. You can just pretend the second computer is a not a computer call it a thin client.

What kind of work you perform on your PC?

Unless you a shooting the bad guys, your best (and probably, cheapest) solution would be a RDP (remote desktop protocol) "terminal" at other places. This terminal can be every $200 laptop or mini-PC.
I primarily use Quicken, Excel and then of course general internet surfing. Do you think the remote desktop will work? What terms do I google to figure out exactly what I need to buy? Thanks for your help!
