I have a windows 10 computer with wifi acsess and an ubuntu 16.04.2 computer without wifi so I wondered how could i share my windows 10 wifi to my ubuntu computer via an ethernet cable, if its even possible. In addition I also have an Thomson ST546i modem wich is not in use, if thats any help, plus an cat6 to phone jack adapter if I ever need to plug a cat6 cable into the dsl slot of the modem.. The wifi router is in the other side of the house. Therefore I dont want to run a cable all the way over to my ubuntu computer. Thanks in advance for any help :)

Solution
Ok so I managed to find a solution. I only got trouble with the network when sharing from my win10 computer to the ubuntu computer, so i decided to change the roles a bit. I gave the ubuntu machine the wifi adapter and shared its wifi connection to other computers and tada! It just worked. Now my win10 comouter had an internet connection through the ubuntu machine.

Thanks a lot "atljsf" for the help! I really appreciate it. This is just a temporary setup, but it works! Ill most probably get an extra wifi adapter soon but for right now, it works just perfectly fine. :)

I am going to buy a new one but I dont live close to any tech store or general store who has wifi adapters so I cantt get one too soon. Id like to start using my ubuntu computer fairly soon so I can continue my project and for that id need internet acsess. Thats why i asked on this forum.

ok

you mention a adsl modem unused, can you enter to its configuration menu?

if that is the case, disable the dhcp and create a wifi network with the same name as the one used by your pc on wifi, set the same password also(you could also set a bridged network but sometimes doesn't work, also repeater could work but you need to try all 3 options and be patient)

on that modem connect via ethernet the ubuntu machine

once the second modem acts as a repeater for the original wifi on the other modem and assigns ip via the other router, the pc should work with it

some modems like the one you have might not let you do this trick

the other thing you can do is connect via ethernet ubuntu and windows

then create a bridged connection via the wifi on internet and the ethernet adapter

I might be able to acsess the modems configuration menu, but my modem is non wifi so i dont understand how it would repeat the second modems / routers wifi acsess (if thats what you were saying). I can maybe bridge the connections of the wifi card and ethernet card on my win10 computer, then connect the ubuntu computer to my win 10 computer via ethernet. Ill try it out when i get home today

Ok so I managed to bridge my win 10 wifi to the ethernet port. At first my win 10 computer seemed to loose the internet connection when I bridged it to the ethernet port but I managed to fix it somehow. Now I have internet acsess on my win 10 computer, and the wifi port is bridged with the ethernet port. I booted up my ubuntu pc and I saw it had found my wifi name and said it was a wired connection (as I expected) (also i have no password on my wifi cause i live far enough for people and neighbours to not enter my wifi.).

Problem is that when I tried to enter www.google.com in Mozilla Firefox, it didnt find an internet acsess. I checked the connection information for the wired connection and it had found an ipv4 and 6 adress, name of the wifi internet, subnet mask, primary and secondary DNS adresses.

Basically I dont know if the adresses are correct or what is wrong with my connection on ubuntu. Ive set the ipv4 and 6 settings to automatic. Any more help would be highly appreciated :)

to discard, try to set a static ip on the ubuntu machine, and try to use the gateway the ip of the windows 10 machine

it sounds like you are half way there

keep in mind that this problem goes away with a wifi adapter or a ethernet cable, you already said you don't want a cable, but really is the best option
